Lock Nut

Working Principle

KM lock nuts are used to securely fix bearings and other machine elements onto a shaft. They are typically used in conjunction with the following components:

Adaptor Sleeves

When mounting bearings with a tapered bore onto plain shafts, the KM nut is used to drive the bearing up the sleeve and secure it in place.

Withdrawal Sleeves

When using these sleeves, the KM nut is also used to secure the bearing against the stepped shaft.

Equally Spaced Slots

The four slots located around the circumference of the nut are specifically designed to allow for easy tightening or loosening using a hook spanner (C-spanner) or an impact spanner.

MB Lock Washer

The KM lock nut is used in combination with an MB lock washer. The internal tab of the washer seats into a keyway on the shaft. Once the nut is tightened, one of the washer’s outer tabs is bent into a slot on the nut to prevent it from loosening due to vibration or rotational forces.
